New crops for export
Friday, 25 July 2008
BANGLADESH has good prospects to export its agri-products to the UK, the USA, Europe and the Middle East. But the available surplus to export agri-products to these destinations are much less than the demand. One of the main reasons for the situation is the lack of enough investment in agri sector.
The experts suggest that Bangladesh should go for product diversification and growth of high value crops to increase the earnings from agriculture. For example, there is great scope in the country to grow, for exports, mushroom, broccoli, baby corn, French beans, gherkin, capsicum, orchids and various ornamental plants. All of these which have higher export value and ample export market, can be grown by common farmers. The government must coordinate its polices to give a boost to the entire agri sector.
