New danger signal system likely from next month

Sunday, 19 April 2009

A new cautionary signal system for forecasting rough weather is likely to be in effect after April 30 depending on government approval, reports UNB.
Under the restructured system, there will be no signal numbers 5 and 7 for both the seaport and river port areas, Deputy Director of Meteorology Department Shah Alam told a workshop on disaster risk reduction at BIAM auditorium in the city Saturday.
He said an expert group prepared the new signal system and placed it for government approval. "If the government approves it, the new signalling system will take effect anytime after April 30," he said.
