Dr Md Syedul Islam, a distinguished agricultural scientist of the country, has been appointed Director General of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) on January 1, 2012.
Earlier, he was the director (Admin) and coordinator for Advanced Studies and Research (CASR).
He was also the Chief Scientific Officer of BRRI, a press note said.
Dr Islam began his career as a scientific officer in Agricultural Engineering Division of BRRI in 1981.
Dr Syedul conducted his doctorate degree research on "agricultural engineering with specialisation in farm machinery" from the University of Putra Malaysia in 1998.
Dr Islam is considered as one of the senior agricultural scientists in National Agricultural Research System (NARS) in Bangladesh with 29 research and articles published in different journals at home and abroad.
