AK Azad, President of FBCCI and board of directors of the apex trade body took charge for a period of two-year term (2010-12) Wednesday.
AK Azad is the 20th president of the FBCCI since 1974.
The apex trade body organised a simple function to mark the occasion at its office with the FBCCI election board chief, Ali Ashraf MP, in the chair.
Addressing the ceremony, FBCCI president AK Azad said that his first assignment is to further strengthen the apex trade body.
"I want to develop the FBCCI in the light of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry," AK Azad said.
AK Azad, however, criticised the government for the provision of jail term for the businessmen who are in default of paying taxes to the national exchequer saying: "Such rules should be scrapped."
"We pay Tk 600 billion as taxes a year, but ironically, the budget has provision for imprisonment up to five years in default of paying of taxes."
Mr Azad said he along with the board of directors will pursue the government to scrap such 'irregularities' contained in the budget.
FBCCI first vice president Jashim Uddin said that he would do his best for the business community.
"We're here for the business community and our main job is to protect its interest," Mr Jashim added.
Addressing the function outgoing FBCCI president Annisul Huq said he had tried his best for the welfare of the business community.
Earlier, Ali Ashraf MP formally announced the names of all board directors.
Secretary general of the FBCCI Mir Shahabuddin conducted the ceremony while former FBCCI president, first vice presidents and FBCCI general body members were present.
Outgoing FBCCI first vice president Abul Kasem Ahmed, vice president Abu Alam Chowdhury also addressed the ceremony.
