13 edible oil traders fined in Moulvibazar
A mobile court in a drive fined 13 traders Tk 0.27 million (Tk 2.70 lakh) for selling edible oil without authorisation of Bangladesh Standards Testing Institute (BSTI) and seized 379 canes of edible oil in Sreemangal upazila on Monday. Sources said a mobile court led by upazila nirbahi officer of Sreemangal Shahid Mohammad Saidul Haque conducted the drive in different areas of the upazila, seized 379 canes of edible oil and fined 13 businesses a total of Tk 0.27 million for selling edible oil without BSTI approval. Assistant Commissioner (land) Nurul Huda, BSTI official Kawsar Ali, chairperson of Sreemangal Upazila Traders Association Sheikh Lutfur Rahman, general secretary Kodar Ali, officer-in charge of Sreemangal police station Abdul Jalil and assistant director of Rapid Action Battalion Sreemangal camp Hayat were present during the drive. — UNB
Electrocution kills farmer in Nilphamari
A farmer was electrocuted in North Ketokibari area under Domar upazila here Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Islam Uddin, 62, son of Chhapir Uddin of the area. Islam died on the spot as he came in contact with a live electric wire while he was working in the field, at around 10 am, said chairman of Ketokibari union parishad Jahurul Hoque Dipu. — BSS
DB police arrests drug peddler in Manikganj
Detectives arrested an alleged drug peddler in possession of 120 packs of heroin from Bandutia area in the district town on Monday. The arrestee was identified as Habi Hossain, 38, son of Kashem Ali, a resident of the area. Sub-inspector of DB police Shah Alam said on a tip-off, the law enforcers went to Bandutia in the guise of buyers to make a deal with the alleged drug peddler Habi and arrested him in the afternoon. Later, the DB police recovered 120 packets of heroin searching his body. The arrestee has been involved in drug peddling for long, the SI added. — UNB
Two siblings held with Ganja in Gopalganj
A team of police in a drive arrested two siblings from near Baladanga bridge area of Tungipara here last midnight. Police also seized five kg ganja from their possession. The arrestees are Tariqule (28) and Suman (20) of Goura village under Sharsha thana of Jessore district. Being informed, a team of police rushed and arrested them from the area and sent them to the court Tuesday, said officer in charge of Tungipara thana Mahmud Hossain. — BSS
