MAG Group, a seller and buyer of textile-related materials, unveiled some new knitwear machines at a seminar held in the city recently.
The seminar titled "Introducing New Technology in Knitwear Sector Facing the Challenge of 21st Century" was addressed by Abdus Salam Murshedy, president of BGMEA, as chief guest while Fahmida Khatun, additional director of CPD, Md Fazlul Haque, president of BKMEA, Jude Elmo Fernando, technical expert on garment printing UK, were among the special guests.
Chairman of the MAG Group Md Anwarul Ghani presided over the seminar in which Fahmida Khatun presented the key-note paper.
The paper dealt with a brief overview of the RMG sector which has made significant contributions to the economic development of Bangladesh over three decades.
It also said that the knitwear and sweater industries are still using old machines for which productivity is low. On the other hand, shortage of skilled manpower makes the productivity slow.
So, introducing automatic machines is now very essential to increase productivity and efficiency to quicken delivery of products.
Jude Elmo presented a very educative discussion on technical sides of the new knitwear machines.
Murshedy thanked the first generation RMG entrepreneurs who had taken a brave step which has made the sector so phenomenal.
He also showed a comparative picture of past and present condition of the RMG sector.
While responding to a question about the present yarn crisis he blamed textile millers and spinners for the volatile yarn price.
Anwarul Ghani introduced the new machines namely circular knitting sweater machine, garment printing, oval-type computerised garment printing machine and automatic computerised flat-sequins-cording-embroidery machine imported from Askme Intergroup Co Ltd and Fukahama Machinery Co Ltd, Taiwan.
