New pay scale in next fiscal: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said the government would be able to announce the new pay scale for the government employees in the next fiscal year (2014-15). She made the announcement while replying to a question from Selim Uddin (Sylhet-5) during the PM's question-answer session in the Parliament. Hasina said the government formed a 15-member pay commission headed by former Bangladesh Bank governor Dr M Farashuddin, which was supposed to submit its report within six months. But, she said, the Commission could not submit it due to BNP-Jamaat’s severe destructive activities across the country. Hasina also said the government as an interim measure has introduced 20 per cent dearness allowance for civil servants from July 1, 2013, according to a news agency.
