New project to develop regions on both sides of Padma

The government has taken up a project to develop regions on both sides of the Padma River to help spur the economic growth, officials said.
The project will be implemented with the financial support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), they said.
The government of Bangladesh and the ADB signed an agreement in February last for ensuring the development in the locations near the river.
The project "Project Design Advance (PDA) for City Region Economic Development Investment Programme (City Region Development Project -ll) will be implemented with a financial cost of Tk 525 million. Out of the amount, the government will provide Tk 133 million.
Under the move, the ministry of local government, rural development and cooperatives sent the project proposal to the cabinet division for approval by the cabinet committee on public purchase in its meeting to be held next week.
The cabinet committee on public purchase is going to give approval for the appointment of two foreign and three local firms for providing consultancy services and other logistic support for implementing the project.
The Hifab International AB (Sweden) in association with sub-consultants BETS Consulting Services Ltd (Bangladesh), Otak Inc (USA), Aqua Consultant and Associates Ltd (Bangladesh) and Resource Planning and Management Consultants Ltd (Bangladesh) are likely to provide preparatory design and supervision (PDS) consultancy services under the project.
