Friday, 20 July 2007

National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCT) is set to reprint school textbooks with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman restored as 'Father of the Nation' and Ziaur Rahman named "proclaimer of independence on behalf of Bangabandhu."
The rewritten history says Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman declared independence on behalf of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on March 27 in 1971, reports UNB.
The NCTBB in preparing the new scripts of school textbooks added 'Father of the Nation" and 'Bangabandhu' to the name of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The Education Ministry has already approved the script of the corrected history, which now awaits printing for 2008 academic session.
NCTB Chairman Mohammad Yusuf Farooq said that the corrected history of the liberation struggle would be inserted in the textbooks of Bangla, History and Social Studies for students of Classes I-IX.
He said that while preparing new scripts, they were completely neutral and tried to recognise Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and President Ziaur Rahman according to their historic contributions.
With the change of governments in the past, the school textbooks were printed with changes in the history of the country's liberation struggle and independence war.
