NILPHAMARI, Mar 21: It is during the last two decades or so the families of Nilphamari district are planting and rearing quality Rajshahi- Chapainawabganj variety mango saplings in their orchards and homesteads.
A huge number of local nurseries across the district enabled them to do so as the farmers mainly collect the saplings from there. Sources said nearly 300 orchards have been grown up in the meantime and the process is going on.
More than 0.2 million trees of Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj variety like Langra, Fazli, Gopalbhog, Amropaly, Khirsapati, Haribhanga and so on are to be found in the homesteads and orchards and almost all of which are in budding stage. On the other hand traditional local variety mango that used to satisfy our local needs is losing ground. DAE sources said there are nearly 0.3 million local varieties mango trees across the district which are not so tasty and some are sour have also sprouted and now in budding stage.     abumusa88@gmail.com
