New variety of tea in Ctg gardens

CHITTAGONG, July 20: Tea gardens of Chittagong valley have brought about radical changes in the tea industry following plantation of the highly yielding 'Clone Tea' innovated by the Bangladesh Tea Research Institute (BTRI).
Speakers at a seminar held at BTRI Fatikchari Sub-centre in the city today expressed this view.
They said, more than half of the ten tea gardens selected as the best quality producer are based in Chittagong.
As tea produced in this region has already occupied a qualitative standard, tea industry of Chittagong is sure to bring reputation through earning valuable foreign currency, the speakers added.
BTRI scientific officer Ismail Hossain presided over the seminar while principal scientific officer Mukul Jyoti read out the key note paper on the occasion.
