A newborn baby girl, apparently discarded by her mother soon after birth, was found buried but miraculously alive by farmers at Agailjharha Upazila in Barisal district on Friday afternoon. The baby's identity could not be established. The baby has been admitted to Agailjharha Upazila Health Complex. Agailjharha Police Station OC Sazzad Hossain said that some labourers were working on a farmland belonging to one Anwar Hossain at Ranta village under Rajihar Union in the afternoon when they heard a baby cry. They followed the sound to discover the baby girl, who appeared to have been buried alive. She had managed to push her head above the ground. She is now recovering well at the hospital. The OC said that if no one claimed the baby, she could be adopted by any childless couple, according to bdnews24.com.
