Robbers held, arms recovered in Cox's Bazar
COX'S BAZAR, June 30: Rapid Action Battalion in a drive arrested three robbers including notorious Abu Huraira, 26, from Teknaf in the district early Thursday, Assistant Police Super Md Billal Uddin from RAB-15 told a press briefing on Thursday afternoon. He said on information they conducted a raid in Marine Drive Road at Shamlapur and arrested them. Later, RAB men conducted another drive in Hajompara area under Teknaf upazila and recovered 2 SBBL guns, 2 three-quarter guns, 2 homemade pistols, a round of bullet and 8 mobile phone sets. The other detainees are Morshed Alam, 21, and Nurul Islam, 38. All of them were residents in Uttor Shilkali area in Teknaf upazila. — BSS
DMP arrests 50 persons for consuming, selling drugs
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 50 people on charges of selling and consuming drugs conducting drives in different parts of the city during last 24 hours till 6am on Thursday. Police arrested 50 drug traffickers with huge narcotics during the anti-drug drives, a DMP release said. The law enforcers also seized 242 grams of heroin, 22.730 kilograms of cannabis (ganja), 3,921 pieces of yaba tablets and 30 bottle of phensidyl from the arrestees' possession, it said. Police filed 42 cases against the arrestees with respective police stations under the Narcotics Control Act. — BSS
Youth held with 10 gold bars in Magura
MAGURA, June 30: A youth has been detained with 10 gold bars in Magura, anti-narcotics cops said on Thursday. The detainee has been identified as Sakib Hossain, 22, of Sharsha upazila of Jashore. Acting on a tip-off that drugs were being transported to Jashore from Chattogram, a team of the Narcotics Control Department detained the youth with the gold bars from a bus of 'Eagle Paribahan' at Parnanduali bus terminal on Wednesday afternoon. During primary questioning, Sakib admitted that he was carrying the gold bars from Dhaka to Jashore, said Magura Narcotics Control Department inspector Kabir Ahmed. Sakib was later handed over to Magura Sadar police station. "A case has been filed in this regard," said the official. — UNB
