Thrust on introducing software accounting system in SoEs
The Ministry of Industries (MoI) should consider introducing software-based accounting system in the state-owned industrial units, especially in the sugar mills, to check financial irregularities and make those operationally sound and financially viable. This was recommended at a views exchange meeting with the chief executive officers of different state-owned enterprises (SoEs) at the MoI in the capital on Sunday. Additional secretary of the MoI Begum Porag moderated the meeting. Earlier, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun had asked the officials concerned of the ministry to take initiatives for making the state-owned sugar mills profitable. Taking part in the discussion, Industries Secretary Abdul Halim stressed the need for making the mills and factories supervised by the MoI profitable ones. He also suggested overhauling the existing production and marketing strategies of the sugar mills and fertiliser factories. In the open disucssion, the chief executives of the state-run mills and factories suggested capactiy building of the SoEs through skills developement of the employees and officials with providing proper training. The meeting stressed the need for compulsory use of software accounting system to ensure transparency in the mills and factories. High officials of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC), Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Ltd (KAFCO), British American Tobacco Bangladesh (BTAB) and Uniliver Bangladesh Ltd were present, among others. — FE Repor

JS body for more manpower to boost rail link
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Railways on Sunday recommended recruiting more manpower in Bangladesh Railway to further accelerate the railway communication. The committee came up with the recommendation at its 3rd meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with Committee Chairman ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury in the chair, said a press release. Committee members Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujon, Shafiqul Islam Shimul and Begum Nadia Yasmin Joly attended the meeting. The committee also suggested the ministry for ensuring cleanliness of railway stations across the country.— BSS
