JS body for ensuring use of ocean resources
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology on Monday recommended the ministry to take necessary measures to ensure effective use of the ocean resources through making plans by the Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute. The recommendation was made at the 1st meeting of the committee at Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with its Chairman AFM Ruhal Haque in the chair, said an official release here. Committee members Iqbalur Rahim, Md Habibe Millat and Md Akhteruzzaman attended the meeting. Science and Technology Minister Architect Yeafesh Osman also attended the meeting at a special invitation. The committee also suggested completing the technical survey on setting up a high-powered nuclear research reactor project soon. — BSS

BD urges Korea to recruit manpower
State Minister Md Shahriar Alam today urged South Korea to recruit more Bangladeshi nationals under its Employment Permit System (EPS) for foreign workers. He made the urge while Ambassador of South Korea to Bangladesh Hu Kang Ilat met him at his office at foreign affairs ministry here, a press release said.
During the meeting Shahriar said South Korea has turned out to be an important development partner of Bangladesh and Dhaka seeks expansion of scope of activities of Korean Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF). He said that Korean success in transforming South Korea within a generation has inspired Bangladesh to steer the nation on a development path. The Korean envoy praised rapid industrialization and development of Bangladesh under the able leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, which gives a bright future of Bangladesh. Kang highly praised the technical skill of young professionals in Bangladesh who are presently working in assembly plant and research centre of South Korea's electronic giant Samsung. —BSS
