BTCL gets new MD
Tamal Kanti Nandy, a member of Bangladesh Telecommunication Company Limited (BTCL), has taken over as the Managing Director (MD) of the state-owned company recently. Prior to his new assignment, Tamal Kanti was the BTCL member (Maintenance and Operation). He obtained engineering degree in electrical and electronics from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology in 1982. Later, he joined then Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board (BTTB) as an assistant divisional engineer in 1988 through the 7th BCS. He hails from Kanchana village in Satkania, Chattogram. — Statement

Barapukuria coal mine workers continue strike
DINAJPUR, May 14 : Workers and staffs of Barapukuria Coal Mine Company have been continuing their indefinite strike for the second consecutive day on Monday to press home their 13-point demand, including payment of salary arrears of nine months. Over a thousand workers started their strike from 6:00am on Sunday. The coal workers staged demonstrations in front of the company's entrance in the morning. Workers' leaders said they gave ultimatum to the authorities on April 26 and started the strike as the authorities paid no heed to their demand. — UNB
