CU student killed in Kolkata road crash
A student of Chittagong University (CU) has been killed and her mother, a teacher of the university, severely injured in a road accident in Kolkata. The dead is Shajmila Jismam Moon, a third year student of the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) of the university. The injured was Moon's mother Dr Shirin Ara Chowdhury Doly, a Professor of Management Department of the same university. According to family sources, Moon and her elder brother Lieutenant Safwan Jasir Chowdhury took their mother Doly to India on July 8 for health check-ups. They were scheduled to go to Delhi on July 10. "Moon and her mother were hit by a speedy bus while crossing a road on July 10. Both of them were rushed to Kolkata PG hospital where Moon breathed her last on July 12," said Jashim Uddin Chowdhury, Moon's father and former vice president of AB Bank. Couple found dead in Naogaon river
A couple was found dead on a boat in the Shib river in Niyamatpur upazila of Naogaon district on Tuesday, police said on Wednesday. The dead is Raihan Ali (25), son of Adam Ali of Bil Surshunia village, and his wife Tarabanu, 19, daughter of Iskendar Ali of Srikla village. Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of Niamatpur thana, said, Tarabanu and Raihan got married six months ago without the consent of their families. Local people spotted the bodies in the river and informed the police. Cops suspect they died by suicide. — UNB

Child drowns in Panchagarh pond
An eight-year –old boy drowned in a pond at Pathraj village in Boda upazila of Panchagarh district on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Meraj, son of Mohammad Sultan of Sardarpara village under Boda upazila. Family sources said Meraj drowned in a pond near house while taking a bath. Later, his body was spotted floating on the pond water and immediately he was taken to Boda Upazila Health Complex where the attending doctor declared him dead. Boda thana officer- in-charge Abu Sayed Chowdhury confirmed the incident. — BSS
