Covered van catches fire in city
A running goods-laden covered van caught fire in the Farmgate area in the capital on Monday. However, there was no report of casualties. An official of Tejgaon Fire Service Station told the FE that they got information of fire through a 999 call. He said that the incident of fire happened around 12:38 pm. Two units of fire fighters rushed to the spot. But the local people doused the flame before the arrival of fire fighters on the spot. —FE Report

One killed over land dispute in B’baria
A man was killed and 15 others were injured in a clash between two groups of people over a land dispute in Nasirnagar upazila of Brahmanbaria in the early hours of Monday. The dead is Akter Mia (40), son of late Khurshed Ali from Guniyauk village of the upazila. According to the deceased's family, Akter and his cousin Dulal Mia have been at loggerheads over a piece of land for a long time. A clash broke out between the supporters of the two around 9:30pm on Sunday, which left 15 people injured including Akter and Dulal. Eleven of the injured were rushed to Brahmanbaria General Hospital where Akter succumbed to his injureis at about 1:00am. Officer-in-charge of Nasirnagar thana Habibullah Sarker said the body of the deceased has been kept at the hospital's morgue for autopsy. Police have been deployed in the area to avert further trouble, said the OC. —UNB

Water levels in 13 rivers rise, 94 fall
Water levels at 13 river stations monitored by Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) have marked a rise while 94 stations recorded a fall. Among the 109 monitored river stations, two have been registered steady and water level at all river stations is flowing below the danger level, a bulletin issued by the FFWC said in Dhaka on Monday. The Brahmaputra-Jamuna rivers are in falling trend, which may continue in the next 48 hours, the bulletin said adding: "The Ganges river is in steady state while the Padma river is in falling trend, which may continue in the next 48 hours." Significant rainfall was recorded at some stations in different districts during the last 24 hours ending at 9 am on Monday. —BSS
