Touchstone statue recovered in Naogaon
NAOGAON, Apr 07: A 70-kg touchstone statue, worth over Tk 350 million (35 crore), has been recovered in Naogaon, police said on Thursday. Three members of a smuggling syndicate were also held from a house at Sultanpur Dakkhin Pal Para in the district's Mahadebpur upazila, according to cops. The arrestees have been identified as Sumon Acharya, 30, of Bobator village, Moni Mandal, 25, of Sultanpur village, and Roky Sarkar of Tatarpur Sarkar Para. "Acting on a tip off, we raided the house of a person named Ganesh Pal on Wednesday and recovered the touchstone statue," said Azam Uddin Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Mahadebpur Police Station. Later, police arrested the three from the house who admitted to their crime. A case has been lodged under Special Power Act, the OC said. — UNB

RMCH opens largest oxygen tank
RAJSHAHI, Apr 07: Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) opened a largest oxygen tank formally on its campus to meet the oxygen demands of its patients. The 30,000-liter capacity tank was opened adjacent to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Wednesday afternoon, said RMCH Director Brig Gen Shamim Yazdani, adding there is no such type of largest tank in the country. ICU in-charge Dr Abu Hena Mostofa Kamal told the news agency that they had a 10,000-liter oxygen tank earlier but the oxygen demand had enhanced to a greater extent during the last Covid-19 pandemic. Then they had to face great trouble to deal with the adverse situation. So, the 30,000-liter tank has been installed afresh at the site of the previous one, supplying oxygen to the indoor patients of the 1,250-bed tertiary hospital side by side with its ICU in an emergency, Dr Kamal added. — BSS

1.2 kg hemp recovered in C'nawabganj
CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Apr 07: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 1.2 kg of hemp from Chowka frontier in Chapainawabganj district in the early hours of today. BGB said acting on a tip off, a patrol team of BGB from Chowka border outpost conducted a raid at Chowka Pashchimpara about one kilometre inside Bangladesh territory from border pillar No. 175 at 5 am and found the hemp in an abandoned condition. — BSS
