One killed, two injured in Rajshahi clash
RAJSHAHI, Apr 09: A 35-year-old man was killed and two others were injured in a clash between two rival groups in Charghat upazila of Rajshahi over the formation of a mosque committee on Friday, police said. The deceased was identified as Khokan Ali, son of Mozahar Ali of Zutkartik village in the upazila. The two injured, Mozahar Ali and Sirajul Islam, have been given primary treatment at the upazila health complex. Police on Saturday claimed to have detained 17 people in connection with the clash. Cops and eye-witnesses said that the two groups, one led by Kamruzzaman alias Mukul, and another by Muktar Ali, had a longstanding dispute over the formation of a committee of the village mosque and replacing its president. During the Magrib prayers, an altercation broke out over the matter between the two groups that resulted in the clash, leaving Khokan Ali (nephew of Muktar Ali) critically wounded. He was rushed to Charghat upazila health complex where doctors declared him dead on arrival. — UNB
Supervisor found dead inside bus in Laxmipur
LAXMIPUR, Apr 09: A 32-year-old man was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside a bus parked in front of the deputy commissioner's office in Laxmipur district early on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Riad Hossain Liton, son of Dudu Mia of Sadar upazila, who worked as a supervisor with the transport firm operating the bus. Jashim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Laxmipur Police Station, said the bus reached Laxmipur around 10pm on Friday. "Later, Nahid, the driver, parked it in front of the deputy commissioner's office in the district town and left," the OC said. "Liton and a helper were supposed to spend the night on the bus. But around 4am, Nahid returned to the bus and found Liton lying in a pool of blood," the OC said. On information, police recovered the body and arrested Nahid for interrogation. Two held with 301 bottles of Phensedyl
RANGPUR, Apr 09: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 arrested two alleged drug traders with 301 bottles of Phensedyl from the Mirerdanga area under Hatibandha upazila in Lalmonirhat district on Friday night. "On a tip off, an operational team of RAB-13 conducted a raid there and arrested the two men with the phensedyl from their possessions," said a press release issued on Saturday by Senior Assistant Director (Media) of RAB-13 Flight Lieutenant Mahmud Bashir Ahmed. The arrested persons were identified as Md Tota Mian, 45, and Shree Bakul Chndra Roy, 28, of Lalmonirhat district. During primary interrogation, the arrested persons admitted that they had been involved in trading drugs in connivance with their other cohorts for a long time. After filing a case in this connection against the arrested persons, the elite force handed them over to Hatibandha police station in Lalmonirhat district on Saturday. — BSS
