2 killed, 4 hurt in Los Angeles shooting
LOS ANGELES, Apr 11: Two people were killed and four more injured in a shooting Sunday afternoon in the U.S. city of Los Angeles, local authorities said. The shooting occurred at approximately 4:13 p.m. local time (2013 GMT) at the 12200 block of Blakley Avenue, said the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in an alert. Two male adult victims were pronounced dead at the scene. An additional four gun-shot victims were transported to nearby hospitals and their conditions are unknown at this time, according to the department. — Xinhua
Sweden, Finland may join NATO soon
MOSCOW, Apr 11: Sweden and Finland may join NATO as early as this summer, the Times newspaper reported citing its sources. According to the news outlet, it is expected that Finland will apply for its membership in June and Sweden will follow. According to its sources, the governments of Sweden and Finland are working together on reaching consensus on the matter domestically, however, the final decision will be made by each country independently. Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that the possible NATO membership of Sweden and Finland became one of the most discussed subjects during the April 6-7 meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels. — TASS
One dead in Indian cable car accident
NEW DELHI, Apr 11: A cable-car accident at an Indian pilgrimage site killed at least one person and left dozens dangling in mid-air, officials said Monday, with a rescue operation under way using air force helicopters. Around 48 people were travelling along a steep incline leading up to the Trikut hills in eastern Jharkhand state when three cars crashed into one another late Sunday. Local officials said one woman died in the collision and another was seriously injured, with nearly 20 people still to be brought to safety. "We have rescued more than two dozen people but some are still stuck," a Deoghar district official at the site said. — AFP
