Passenger held for smuggling gold hidden inside a nebuliser
Customs authorities have seized 1.16 kg of gold from a passenger arriving from Dubai at Sylhet MAG Osmani International Airport. The Biman passenger was detained after it landed at 7 am on Friday and the gold was seized, said Md Al Amin, deputy commissioner of customs at the airport. The detainee, Md Ali Ahmed, is a native of Ujan Meherpur village in Golapganj Upazila. "The authorities suspected Ali Ahmed for carrying illegal items while he was crossing the green channel. Later they recovered 11 gold bars hidden inside a nebuliser, used by asthma patients and patients suffering from respiratory distress," the customs officer said. The gold bars are worth Tk 8 million, he said adding the passenger will be handed over to police after the filing of a case. — bdnews24.com

CHATTOGRAM, May 27: At least 13 people have been arrested from Chattogram and Feni district over beating three people including members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Mirsarai in Chattogram, said Rab. The arrestees were identified as Saidur Rahman Sayeed, 33, Anwar Hossain, 45, SM Shafayet Hossain, 38, Minhazul Islam alias Mithu, 36, Shahidul Islam Akash, 25, Sohaib Uddin Abir, 29, Md Saidul Islam Sumon, 30, Nahid Uddin, 33, Md Abu Sayeed, 28, Md Nasir Uddin, 38, Md Main Uddin, 32, Imam Hossain, 33, and Fahad Prakash Farhad, 26, of Mirsarai upazila. 20 injured in clash over land dispute in Sylhet
SYLHET, May 27: At least 20 people were injured in a clash between two factions of villagers over a land dispute at Kumargaon area in Sadar uapzila on Friday. Eyewitnesses said Moyna Mia and the local mosque committee of the area had been at loggerheads over the ownership of a piece of land. The clash ensued following an altercation between the supporters of both the groups in the area after Juma prayers. — UNB
