53 'gamblers' held in Chattogram
CHATTOGRAM, June 12: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members detained 53 suspected gamblers from Halishahar in Chattogram port city on Saturday, RAB said on Sunday. Tipped off, a team of RAB-7 conducted a drive at a recreation centre and co-operative society at Nawab Tower inside Halishohor Mart and detained them, said Nurul Absar, assistant director of RAB-7. The elite force also seized some materials used for gambling and Tk 0.36 million (3.69 lakh) from their possession. — UNB
Two electrocuted in Shariatpur
SHARIATPUR, June 12: Two people have died from electrocution at Shidhalkura in Damudya upazila Saturday afternoon. The deceased were identified as Jahangir Bepari, son of Jahirul Haque Bepari, and Farid Matbor, son of Mannan Matbor. According to the locals, Jahangir and Farid were electrocuted while they were doing electrical work at a house. The victims were rushed to the Upazila Health Complex by their family members where doctors declared them dead upon arrival. — UNB
Man 'kills' brother-in-law
CHATTOGRAM, June 12 (UNB): A man was stabbed to death allegedly by his brother-in-law at the EPZ Cement Crossing area in Chattogram city Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Md. Mamun, 37. Officer-in-charge (OC) of CMP EPZ Police, Kabirul Islam said Hasan called Mamun near Alisha intersection and stabbed him around 9 pm. Mamun was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead at around 10 pm, he said. — UNB
