Microbus set on fire after schoolboy hurt in N'ganj road accident
Local people set a microbus on fire after it hit an auto-rickshaw on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Araihazar upazila of Narayanganj district on Monday, leaving a schoolboy injured. Quoting local people, Azizul Haque, officer-in-charge of Araihazar thana, said the microbus carrying some policemen hit the auto-rickshaw carrying some school students in the Purinda area of the upazila. One policeman was also injured in the accident. As the policeman tried to put the blame on the auto-rickshaw driver, the students of Purinda KM High School students turned furious and set the microbus on fire. On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The injured schoolboy was given first aid. Vehicular movement on the busy road remained suspended for some time after the accident. — UNB
Two killed in Nilphamari road accident
Two persons were killed and two others injured in a road accident on Domar-Jaldhaka road in Akbot area under Domar upazila of the district on Monday afternoon. The dead are rickshaw puller Afsharul Islam (45), son of Sukaru Mahmud, resident of Matukpur Nadiapara village of the upazila and Zahurul Islam (25), son of Lebu Mia of Dakshin Titpara village of Dimla upazila. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Domar thana Md Mahmud Un Nabi said the accident occurred when a Jaldhaka-bound rice-laden tractor fromThakurgaon overturned on a passengers' rickshaw coming from the opposite direction in the area around 1:00 pm as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving one dead on the spot and three others injured. The injured were taken to Domar Upazila Health Complex where the attending doctor declared Afsharul Islam dead. — BSS
Lightning strike kills two in Natore
Two people were killed and seven others injured after being struck by lightning at Bagatiprara, and Boraigram upazilas in Natore on Monday. The dead is Ashik (20) of Bagatipara upazila and Salim Uddin (42), a farmer of Notabaria area in Boraigram upazila, said Sirajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Natore Model thana. A steak of lightning struck a tea stall at Karamdosi Bazar in Bagatipara, killing Ashik on the spot and injuring seven people including his father Sihab Uddin and shop owner Rupali Begum. Meanwhile, Salim Uddin was struck by lightning at 12:00 noon while working in the field beside his home , he said. — UNB
