Mother, daughter raped for seven days in Sylhet, two held
SYLHET, Aug 07: Police have arrested two people in connection with the rape of a woman and her 15-year-old daughter for seven days in Osmaninagar upazila of Sylhet district. The arrestees are Matin Miah, manager of Supreme Filling Station of the Goaulbazar area of Osmaninagar upazila, and Bulbul, 40, owner of Bogura Hotel of the same area. SM Mayeen Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Osmaninagar Police Station, said the mother, hailing from Netrakona district, used to work at the Bogura Hotel and lived with her daughter at a rented house beside the hotel at the upazila headquarters. — UNB
Mirsharai crash death toll rises to 13 as another dies
CHATTOGRAM, Aug 07: A 16-year-old student succumbed to injuries on Saturday at CMCH raising the death toll to 13 from the accident involving a running train hitting a microbus stuck on a level crossing in Mirsharai upazila in Chattogram, said a physician of the hospital. The deceased was identified as Tasmir Hasan, a passenger of the ill-fated microbus. He was an SSC examinee from KS Nazumiyahat High School. Tasmir died around 9:50pm while undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) for the last eight days, said CMCH's intensive care unit (ICU) Dr Harun Or Rashid. — UNB
Young man gets life-term jail for raping girl in Tangail
TANGAIL, Aug 07 : A court here today sentenced a young man to life-term imprisonment for raping a girl in Sakhipur upazila. Judge of district Women and Children Repression Prevention Court Khaleda Yasmin handed down the verdict to Rabin, 20, hailed from Sakhipur municipality area. According to the prosecution, convict Rabin called the girl at his house and raped her on July 7 in 2016. Following the rape, the girl's mother filed a case with Sakhipur police station accusing five people. — BSS
