BGB member killed in Bhola road crash
A BGB member was killed and four others were injured when a truck rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw near Bhola's Ilisha Bazar area on Tuesday. The dead, Md Ismail Hossain Titu (40), is son of Md Anwar Hossain of Muchakandi village under Bhola Sadar upazila. According to locals, Ismail was coming to his house in Bhola Sadar from Khagrachhari on vacation. The accident occurred when the truck coming from the opposite direction collided with the three-wheeler on which Ismail was riding, leaving him dead on the spot. The injured including the driver of the three-wheeler were admitted to Bhola Sadar Hospital. Md Enayet Hossain, officer in-charge of Bhola Model thana, said the body has been sent to Bhola Sadar Hospital for autopsy. "The helper of the truck was detained and the truck was seized. A case under the Road Transport Act has been filed in this connection," said the OC. — UNB
Two get 14 yrs in jail for abducting schoolgirl in Cox's Bazar
A Cox's Bazar court has sentenced two persons to 14 years in prison each in a case filed over abduction of a schoolgirl in 2016. The court of Women and Children Repression and Prevention Tribunal-2 Judge Md Mashiur Rahman also fined the convicts Tk 10,000 each on Tuesday. In default of which they would have to suffer more six months of rigorous imprisonment. Adesh Barua (22) and Sindha Modhu Barua (30) are both residents of Ramu upazila in the district. According to the case statement, Adesh and Sindha Modhu kidnapped a student class VIII, Lima Baura, when she was on her way to school from her residence in Fatekharkul Baruapara of Ramu upazila on January 11, 2016. Later, the victim's mother Purnima Barua filed a case accusing three people with the thana on January 16 of the same year. The court tried the convicts in absentia and handed down its verdict after examining the witnesses and documents, Advocate Syed Rezaur Rahman, special public prosecutor of the court said, adding that another accused was acquitted from all charges in the case. — UNB
Three jailed for life for killing woman in Kushtia
A Kushtia court has sentenced three people to life term imprisonment for killing a woman in Mirpur upazila in 2012. Additional District and Session Court-1, Judge Tajul Islam pronounced the verdict on Wednesday afternoon. The convicts are Shahabuddin Ahmed alias Manju (35), son of Nazrul Islam of Khairpur village of Mirpur upazila, Helal Uddin (26), son of Abu Mandal alias Baga Mandal of the same village and Ashraful Alam (33), son of late Hasem Ali, a resident of the Mirpur upazila. The court also fined them Tk 25,000 each. In default, they will have to suffer more one year rigorous imprisonment. According to the prosecution, the three convicts killed Bristi and dumped her body by the side of the Mirpur-Daulatpur road in Chitharia area on 1 July 2012, when she was going to her aunt's house. — BSS
