RAB nabs death row convict
from Ashulia
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel arrested an absconding death convict -- Uzzal Pramanik -- from Ashulia area in Dhaka on Tuesday night for allegedly killing his wife. Uzzal strangulated his wife for not getting dowry of Tk 50,000, Commander of RAB-3 Lieutenant Colonel Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed told the media at a press briefing at its media centre at Karwan Bazar in the capital on Wednesday. Lt Col Arif said Uzzal Pramanik of Koichar Khokhinpara under Bogura Sadar got married with Alo Begum of the same area in 2006. On the day of marriage Tk 30,000 was given to Uzzal. But Uzzal and his family members tortured Alo Begum mentally and physically for providing Tk 50,000 more as dowry. — FE REPORT
Cops recover housewife's body
Police recovered the hanging body of a housewife from the capital's Badda area on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Mosammat Lailee Jahan Sathi (31). A sub-inspector of Badda police station said she hanged herself from a kitchen room grill with a scarf on early Wednesday in Beraid Morolpara area in the city. On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered her hanging body from the spot, he told the FE. The victims' body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for an autopsy after completing legal formalities. — FE REPORT
Two Ctg food factories fined on ETP
CHATTOGRAM, Sept 06: Chattogram unit of the Department of Environment fined two food factories on Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) issue. Highway Sweets has been fined taka 536,400 for running a factory without installing ETP. Another food factory named ARK Sea Foods Limited has been fined Tk 64,000 for running a factory with faulty ETP. — Our Correspondent
