Daughter of Shahriar Kabir found dead in Dhaka home
The daughter of Shahriar Kabir, president of Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee, has been found dead on Thursday. The body of 41-year-old Arpita Kabir Mumu was recovered from her home in the capital's Mohakhali, according to Deputy Commissioner Md Shahidullah of the DMP's Gulshan Division. Police believe she took her own life by hanging herself with a rope tied to a bathroom window. The body was handed over to the family later on Thursday night, said Shahidullah. However, the police could not provide the reason behind the suicide. Shahriar's family has not given any statement on the issue. — bdnews24.com
Four arrested with 14 gold bars in Chuadanga
CHUADANGA, June 09: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested four suspected smugglers with 14 gold bars, worth over Tk 22.4 million (2.24 crore), from Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga early Friday. The arrestees Ebadul Mollah, 26, Mahabur Hasan, 27 and Riaz Kazi, 21, are from Lohagara upazila of Narail and Sheikh Sohel Rana, 35, hails from Naragati upazila from the same district. Masud Parvez, director of BGB-58, said a patrolling team of the force took position in Hasadah Bus Stand area of the upazila after being tipped-off that a consignment of gold would be smuggled to India through the border. As a private car was heading towards the border at around 12:00 am, they signaled it to stop, he said, adding that 14 gold bars were recovered from beneath the seats of the vehicle during a search operation. — UNB
Five burnt as rechargeable

Five members of a family, including a child, were injured after a charger fan exploded in Narayanganj's Fatullah. They were admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in critical condition, Md Tariqul Islam, resident surgeon of the institute, confirmed the information. The injured Salam Mondal (55) suffered 70 per cent burn injuries, his wife Bulbuli Begum (45) had 25 per cent burns, their son Md Tutul (25) suffered 60 per cent burn injuries, daughter Sonia Akter (22) suffered 42 per cent burn injuries, and Mehjabin (7) suffered 35 per cent burn injuries, according to the doctor. Sohag, a neighbour, said, "The room caught on fire at around 08:00 am on Friday after an explosion was heard. Then we went and rescued them." — UNB
Oil tanker crash leaves one dead in Chattogram
CHATTOGRAM, June 09: A man was killed and several others injured in a collision between a wagon and a truck in Saltgola rail crossing area of Chattogram city on Thursday night. The accident occurred around 10:30 pm, said Rezaul Haque, sub-inspector of Bandar police station. "We recovered a body under the truck. There may be more casualties", he said, adding that the identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained. Raihan Ashraf, station officer of the fire service, said, "The chemical-laden lorry was leaving the port. When it was passing the Saltgola crossing, it collided with the oil-carrying wagon, leaving one dead on the spot. — UNB
