Six gamblers arrested in Sirajganj
Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested six members of an organised domestic online gambling gang in a raid at Godagari Garaber village in Kazipur upazila of Sirajganj district in the early hours of Thursday. The arrestees are Md Rabiul Hasan (21) of Godagari, two brothers Md Ferdoush Ali (27) and Md Russell Rana (23), Md Raihan Kobir (28) of Bilcotol village, Md Sweet Reza (26) of Maizbari village, and Md Ilias Uddin (36) of the same village. RAB-12 LT Commander Md Abul Hashem Sobuj confirmed the matter in a press release. According to RAB-12 Captain Md Maruf Hossain's instruction, the gamblers and their agent were arrested around 12:00 am on Thursday, said the release. For a long time, they were managing virtual betting or gambling sites and illegal transactions through different mobile banking platforms. And they also manipulated people to gamble with dollars online. They also laundered cores of taka every month, the release also said. — UNB
Man gets life term for selling drugs in Chuadanga
A Chuadanga court on Thursday sentenced a man to life term in jail in a case over seizing drugs from his house in Sadar upazila of Chuadanga around three years back. The convict is Mohammad Rafique (40) of Alukadia union in the Sadar upazila. Chuadanga District and Sessions Judge Zia Haider also fined the convict Tk 20, 0100, in default of which he will have to serve one more month's jail, said the court's Public Prosecutor Belal Uddin. According to the case statement, on information a team of Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) conducted a drive at the house of the convict at Doulatdiader village in the upazila on March 4, 2020. The team recovered 19 ampules of buprenorphine injection during the drive and detained Rafique in this connection. Later, a case was filed accusing him with the Sadar thana. The investigation officer of the case submitted charge sheets in the case on June 15 of the same year. — UNB
Man held with ganja, wine in Noakhali
District Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) in a drive arrested a drug peddler with two kilograms of ganja and four bottles of foreign wine from Kabirhat upazila in Noakhali.The arrestees is Rahadul Islam (25), hailed from the upazila.Assistant Director of the District Department of Narcotics Control Md Abdul Hamid said on a tip-off, a team of the department conducted a raid in Purbo Ghoshbag area under Kabirhat municipality and nabbed Rahadul with the contraband drugs. After filing a case in this connection under the Narcotics Control Act 2018, the team handed over the arrested person to the concerned thana, he added. — BSS
