Three dengue cases reported
No fresh death due to dengue was reported in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours until Friday morning, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). However, three more patients were hospitalised with viral fever during this period, according to the DGHS. Of them, one was admitted in Dhaka hospitals, while the rest was outside the capital. A total of 29 patients are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country. So far, 1,319 dengue cases have been reported since January 1, 2024.
Last year, a total of 1,705 people lost their lives due to dengue, making it the deadliest year on record. The DGHS recorded 321,179 dengue cases and 3,18,749 recoveries last year. Last year's September was the deadliest month for the dengue outbreak, with 396 fatalities and 79,598 cases, according to DGHS data. — UNB
Two killed in road accidents in C'nawabganj
Two people, including a woman, died in separate road accidents in Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila on Friday. The dead are Khairunnesa (65), wife of Ruhul Amin of Chaipara Nimgachhi area of Sadar municipality and Rafi (8), son of Kawsar of Kalinagar area of Shibganj upazila of the district. Confirming the accidents, Mintoo Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar thana, said a sand-laden truck ran over the woman when she was crossing a road in the Malopara area around 11:00 am, leaving her dead on the spot. The body was sent to the Sadar hospital morgue for an autopsy, he said. Meanwhile, a speeding motorbike hit an autorickshaw carrying the boy from behind at the Shibtala intersection of the district headquarters around 10:30 am, leaving him critically injured. He succumbed to his injuries on the way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital from Sadar Hospital, the OC said. Legal action will be taken in this regard, he added. — UNB
Youth held for killing bKash agent in Rajbari
Police have arrested a 20-year-old youth in a case filed for killing a bKash agent in Rupsa Bazar at Kalukhali upazila of Rajbari. The arrestee is Md Torikul Sheikh (20) of Rupsa Bazar area of the upazila. bKash agent Sharif Khan (39) was hacked to death with a machete on Wednesday night. Sharif's wife filed a case with Kalukhali thana against unidentified persons on Thursday. Rajbari Police Superintendent GM Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the matter. According to police, Sharif was found dead in front of Jadur Salon in the Rupsa Switch Gate Bazar area of Kalukhali upazila on Wednesday night. Police recovered his body and sent it to the Rajbari Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. — UNB
