Cambodia earns new world record
for largest 'bridal carry'
PHNOM PENH, Mar 09: Hundreds of Cambodians braved sticky tropical heat to set an unusual new world record: for the most people performing a "bridal carry" at the same time. Late on Friday, 245 men hoisted their partners-wives, girlfriends, sisters or mothers-with one arm under the legs and one behind the back and held the position for a minute to set the mark, certified by Guinness World Records representatives. "I am so happy, it is my first time to participate in such an event to break a world record for Cambodia," Sam Khan, 25, told AFP before carrying his wife. — AFP
Haiti ex-coup leader wants presidency
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Mar 09: Guy Philippe, who helped lead a coup in Haiti in 2004 and returned to the Caribbean island last year after serving a prison sentence in the US, demanded on Friday that the country's prime minister resign and said he wanted to become president. JAKARTA, Mar 09: At least 10 people were killed and 10 others were missing after flash floods and a landslide on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, a local official said Saturday. Torrential rains triggered the floods and landslide that hit Pesisir Selatan regency in West Sumatra province, forcing around 46,000 people to evacuate to temporary shelters. Six missing as S Korean fishing boat capsizes
SEOUL, Mar 09: A South Korean fishing boat carrying nine crew, including seven Indonesians, capsized off the country's southern coast on Saturday, leaving six missing, local authorities said. The 29-ton vessel overturned in waters 68 kilometres (42 miles) south of an island in the coastal city of Tongyeong on early Saturday morning. — AFP
