W Canada blazes cause evacuation orders
ALBERTA, May 13: The season's first major wildfires have spread to roughly 8,000 hectares across Western Canada on Sunday as authorities issued an evacuation order for a community in British Columbia and warned of poor air quality across provinces. In British Columbia, thousands of residents in Northern Rockies Regional Municipality and Fort Nelson First Nations were evacuated as the nearby blaze spread to 2,483 hectares. Northern Rockies Regional Municipality Mayor Rob Fraser in a TV interview said most of the 3,500 residents in and around Fort Nelson had been evacuated. — Reuters
Dual world records marked on Everest
KATHMANDU, May 13: Mount Everest saw two record-breaking climbs on Sunday with a Nepali sherpa making the most ever summits and a British climber setting the record for a foreigner. Kami Rita Sherpa, 54, scaled the world's tallest mountain for a 29th time while British man Kenton Cool marked his 18th peak. Sherpa, already the world-record holder, beat his own landmark in setting the new standard. — BBC
Scholz in Sweden for Nordic security summit
