Russian worker found dead at Rooppur NPP
A Russian worker was found dead in a washroom of the residential Green City of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) project in Pabna, police said on Friday. The deceased Ivan Kaitmazov (40) was employed at the power plant as an electric circuit installer with the project's Skem Company, said Inspector (Investigation) Monirul Islam of Ishwardi Police Station. His body was discovered five days after his death in the washroom of Flat No. 95, located on the 9th floor of Building 14, on Thursday (January 9) around 7 PM, police said. Kaitmazov's body was found with a rope tied around his neck. Green City doctor declared him dead at the scene. "Initially, it is suspected that he may have committed suicide," the inspector said. One gets life-term in drugs case in C'nawabganj
A court on Thursday sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment in a drug case. District and Sessions Judge Md. Mizanur Rahman announced the verdict in presence of the convict. The convict was Liakat Ali, 36, of Chandipur Ghonapara under Nayalabhanga union of Shibganj upazila of the district. The court also fined him Tk 5,000, in default, to suffer six months more in jail. According to the prosecution story, in brief, during an anti-drug drive in Battala Bazar area under Nayalabhanga union, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Liakat with 1.5 kilograms of heroin on November 5, 2020. On the day, Nayeb Subedar of RAB-5 Md. Abu Taleb filed a case with Shibganj Police Station against Liakat Ali. Later, the Investigating Officer (IO) of the case Sub-inspector (SI) Ataur Hossain of Shibganj thana submitted a charge-sheet against Liakat Ali on November 30, 2020. — BSS
