tea vendor killing
CHATTOGRAM, Dec 14: Members of RAB-7 have detained two persons in connection with the killing of a small tea vendor in the city's Laittaghata area under Kotowali thana on Saturday. The arrested individuals were identified as Rubel Boiddya, 31, and Raju Nath, 38. RAB-7 Assistant Director (Media) A R M Mozaffar Hossain said that acting on a tip-off, a RAB team nabbed Rubel and Raju from the area along with two knives and a motorbike. The detainees were later handed over to police for further legal action. The victim, Ismail Hossain, a small tea vendor in the Court Road area, was chopped to death by a group of miscreants while he was returning home around midnight on November 28. — BSS
Rickshaw puller killed in
Nilphamari road accident
NILPHAMARI, Dec 14: A rickshaw puller was killed in a road accident at Khetur Bazar of Putimari union in Kishoreganj upazila of the district on Sunday. The deceased was Morsalin Hossain, 45, son of Tanna Mamud of Madhyakalikapur Balapara village of the upazila. The accident occurred at around 11.30 am when a speeding motorcycle hit a rickshaw from opposite direction, leaving rickshaw puller Morsalin dead on the spot. Kishoreganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Lutfar Rahman confirmed the matter. — BSS
Bakery factory fined
Tk 50,000 in Cumilla
CUMILLA, Dec 14: The National Consumer Rights Protection Department on Sunday fined Tk 50,000 on a bakery factory in Cumilla city for multiple violations of consumer rights and food safety regulations. The fine was imposed on Arab Bakery, located in the Pathuria area of the city, following a raid conducted from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm. The action was taken under various sections of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009. During the operation, authorities found that the bakery was selling underweight products, providing about 70 grams less for every two pounds of party cake. The inspection team also detected the use of prohibited food colours in baby food, frying baby food in burnt oil, and preparing and storing food in an unhygienic environment. — BSS
