Two found dead in separate
incidents in Pirojpur
PIROJPUR, May 31: Two people were found dead in separate incidents in Mathbaria upazila of Pirojpur district on Sunday morning. The deceased were identified as Sagar, 30, son of Kalu Mia, and Abdur Rashid, 35, son of Nur Mohammad, of Dakkhin Amragachia union of the upazila. Locals said someone called Abdur Rashid out of his house around 11:00 pm on Saturday and since then he remained missing. Later, local residents spotted his body near Nehalia Madrasah on Sunday morning. In another incident, Sagar was found dead near a road in the area, also in the morning. On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to local hospital morgue, said Additional Superintendent of Police (Mathbaria circle) Partha Chakraborty. — UNB

Teenage boy stabbed dead
in Patuakhali
PATUAKHALI, May 31: A teenage boy was stabbed to death by miscreants at Masuakhali village in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali district on Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Tajul Islam, 16, son of Faruk Hawladar of the village. Officer-in-Charge of Kalapara Police Station Nazrul Islam said Tajul was attending a marriage ceremony at the village on Saturday night. At one stage, some miscreants called him out of the ceremony around 11:00pm house to a beel (water body). When he went there, the miscreants stabbed him indiscriminately, leaving him injured. Locals rescued and took him to hospital where doctors declared him dead. — UNB

Man hacks sister-in-law, nephew
to death in Manikganj
MANIKGANJ, May 31: A man allegedly hacked his sister-in-law and her infant son to death following a family dispute in Daulatpur upazila of Manikganj district in an attack, which also left the victim's husband injured. The incident took place at Fakirpara village under Bachamara union on Saturday night. The deceased were identified as Amena Begum, 28, wife of Abdus Salam, 40, and their one-and-a-half-year-old son Aswad. Salam was critically injured in the attack and was admitted to Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex for treatment. According to police and locals, a long-standing dispute over family matters and land ownership had existed between Abdus Salam and his younger brother Yusuf Ali, 35. — UNB

Missing man's body found
in Natore pond
NATORE, May 31 (UNB): Police recovered the body of a missing man from a pond in Natore's Naldanga upazila on Friday. The deceased was identified as Milon Prang, 45, a resident of Brahmapur Hajipara village in the upazila. According to police and locals, Milon went missing after leaving home on Wednesday afternoon. Family members searched different places but failed to trace him. On Thursday morning, relatives found his clothes and shoes beside a pond owned by a local resident named Kalam and brought those home. — UNB

Two friends die as motorcycle
falls into Netrakona pond
At least two young men have died after their motorcycle veered out of control, hit a palm tree, and fell into a pond in Netrakona's Kalmakanda. Another passenger was critically injured. The accident occurred on the Kalmakanda-Durgapur Road in the Rahimpur area of Nazirpur Union around 1:15am on Saturday, said Kalmakanda Police Station chief Abul Hashem. The dead have been identified as Nirab Mia, 24, hailing from the Purba Bazar area of Kalmakanda Sadar Union, and Sohan Mia, 20, a native of the Ghoshpara area of the same union. The injured Billal Mia, 18, is a resident of Ghoshpara village. — Bdnews24.com

Couple held with 2,700 pieces of Yaba in Ctg
CHATTOGRAM, May 31 District Narcotics Control Department on Saturday apprehended a Rohingya couple and recovered 2,700 pieces of Yaba from their possession during a drive near Muzaffarabad College on the western side of the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway in Patiya upazila of the district. Patiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ziaul Haque confirmed the arrest. The arrestees are Md. Jane Alam, 26 and his wife Sufaira Begum, 24. They reside in the Leda Old Rohingya Refugee Camp located in Teknaf Upazila of Cox's Bazar. On information, the drive was carried out at 8:30am in a passenger bus en route to Chattogram. As searched, the contraband was recovered from the couple, said sources at the District Narcotics Control Department. Later, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) from the Narcotics Control Department filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act with the Patiya Police Station as the complainant, said OC Ziaul Haque. — BSS
