Nat'l Public Service Day today
The 'National Public Service Day-2022' will be observed today (Saturday) with an objective to encourage and motivate the public service officials to extend their service for people's welfare. 20 injured as bus overturns at Jatrabari
At least 20 people sustained injuries after a commuter bus overturned in the Bishwaroad area of Jatrabari in Dhaka on Friday morning. The accident occurred around 06.30am when the driver lost control of the speeding bus, belonging to Bandhan Paribahan, moments after taking a turn at the busy Bishwaroad intersection, said Monir Hossain, one of the injured passengers. The injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), and 18 of them are being treated at the emergency department, said Bacchu Mia, inspector in-charge of DMCH police outpost."At least three of the injured are in a critical condition," he said, quoting the duty doctor. — UNB

Fire guts 69 shops in Rangamati
A massive fire has ripped through a market in Rangamati's remote Baghaichhari Upazila, burning at least 69 shops and a home. The blaze erupted at the Durchhari market at around 09:00 am on Thursday, according to Md Nurnabi, acting chief of Khagrachhari's Dighinala fire service. Three units of the fire service tamed the flames after a two-and-a-half-hour effort, he said. No casualties were reported in the incident. The market had oil stores, spice warehouses and some residences. Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rumana Akter said firemen had to come all the way from Dighinala as Baghaichhari does not have a fire station. — bdnews24.com

Man held with 12 gold bars at Ctg airport
CHATTOGRAM, Jul 22: A Bangladeshi national was detained with 12 gold bars at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram Friday, Customs officials said. The arrestee has been identified as Md Mizan Uddin, a resident of Fatikchhari upazila, said Farhad Hossain, managing wing commander of the airport. — UNB
