Prince William’s wife Kate gives birth to third child
LONDON, Apr 23: Kate, the wife of Prince William, gave birth to a boy at a hospital in London on Monday, the third child for the British royal couple and now fifth in line to the throne. Kensington Palace said the baby was born at 1001 GMT and weighs 8 lbs 7oz (3.8 kg). William was present for the birth at St Mary's Hospital in west London where their other two children, George and Charlotte, were also born, it added. "The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news," Kensington Palace said. — Reuters

Saudi-led strikes claim 20 lives on Yemen wedding party
SANAA, Apr 23: At least 20 people were killed and 40 others wounded in an air raid on a wedding party in Yemen, rescue teams told the news agency on Monday. Huthi rebels who control most of northern Yemen blamed the Sunday attack on a Saudi-led Arab coalition that backs the country's government. "This is an initial toll of the dead and injured collected from several hospitals until now, and a dozen of the injured are in critical condition," senior health official Mohammed al-Ashwal told Xinhua by phone. — Xinhua

Libyan navy recovers 11 bodies, rescues 283 migrants
TRIPOLI, Apr 23: The Libyan navy said Sunday that it has recovered the bodies of 11 migrants and rescued 283 others off the country's western coast in separate operations. "A Coast Guard patrol recovered the bodies of 11 illegal migrants and rescued 83 others who were on a rubber boat about 5 miles (8 km) off Sabratha coast," spokesman Ayob Qassem told Xinhua. "The boat broke down when (the patrol) reached it," Qassem added. He said the rescued migrants were of African nationalities and were taken to the oil port city of al-Zawiya, west of the capital Tripoli. — Xinhua

Conservative wins Paraguay presidential poll
ASUNCION, Apr 23: Mario Abdo Benitez, who represents Paraguay's long-dominant Colorado conservatives, won Sunday's presidential poll, landing the top job in one of Latin America's poorest countries, election officials said. The US-educated son of a senior aide to the country's late dictator, Abdo Benitez won 46.49 per cent of the vote, with his centrist opponent Efrain Alegre taking 42.72 per cent in a race that was far closer than expected. — AFP

TOKYO, Apr 23: Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf and Japan's Emperor Akihito have attended at a special exhibit on Swedish natural sciences in Tokyo to mark 150 years of diplomacy. The king and Queen Silvia escorted Akihito and Empress Michiko on Monday at the exhibition featuring three key Swedish scientists from the 18th century who have influenced Japan — AP
