Jashore road accident kills woman
JASHORE, Sep 02: A 34-year-old woman died and two others including her husband sustained injuries in a head-on collision between an autorickshaw and a passenger bus on Jashore-Chutipur Road in Sadar upazila of Jashore district on Friday. The deceased was Hafeza Begum, 34, wife of Habibur Rahman who was also injured in the incident, of Kayemkhola village under Jhikargacha upazila of the same district. The injured auto-rickshaw driver is Nasir Hossain. The deceased's family members said that the couple was going to Jashore Sadar from Kayemkhola by the auto-rickshaw. The accident occurred around 11:30am when the speeding bus collided with the autorickshaw from the opposite direction in Erenda Bazar, leaving the woman dead on the spot and two others critically injured, they said quoting witnesses. The injured were sent to Jashore Sadar Hospital where they were undergoing treatment, they said. – UNB
Throat-slit body of Rohingya boy recovered from drain
COX'S BAZAR, Sept 02 (UNB): The throat-slit body of a Rohingya boy was recovered from a drain in Ukhiya camp of Cox's Bazar early Saturday. The deceased Md Mujib, 17, was son of Obaidul Haque of West bloc in the camp No-8 of Ukhiya upazila. Sheikh Muhammad Ali, officer-in-charge of Ukhiya police station, said that locals spotted the body in a drain around 6am. Later, they informed Rohingya Majhi (leaders) who subsequently called Armed Battalion Police (APBn) in the camp, he said. — UNB
Three green coconut traders fined in Bogura
BOGURA, Sept 02: A team of Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) in a drive here realised Taka 20,000 as fine from the owners of three green coconut wholesale traders for various irregularities in different areas in Sadar upazila of the district on Saturday. Sources concerned said the team led by assistant director of Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) in Bogura Md Iftekharul Alam Rizvi conducted the drive at Al Amin Dub Gor in Godarpara area, fined Taka 10,000, Dui Bhai Dub Gor in Namazgar area, fined Taka 5,000 and M/S Rupam Enterprise of Gowalgari area, fined Taka 5000 for not being able to mention the logical reason for the price hike, not saving the purchase voucher and not displaying the price list. The wholesale traders were fined Taka 20,000 for various irregularities and violation of the Consumer Rights Protection Act-2009. — BSS
