Two killed in Gopalganj road accident
Two people were killed and five others injured in a collision between a passenger bus and a battery-run easy bike on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Daserhat area under Muksudpur upazila of Goplaganj on Friday. The dead are Ranu Begum (60), wife of Akmal Sheikh of Maheshpur village under Kashiani upazila and Hayat Sheikh (65), son of Abdul Haque of the same village. The accident occurred when a Khulna-bound passenger bus of Dola Paribahan from Dhaka collided head-on with a battery-run easy bike coming from opposite direction, while overtaking another bus around 11:30am. The accident left one passenger of the easy bike dead on the spot and six others injured, sub-inspector (SI) of Bhanga Highway Police Md. Abu Noman said. — BSS
Body of doctor recovered in Chuadanga
Police recovered the body of a doctor, found hanging from the railing of a bridge in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga in the early hours of Friday. The deceased was identified as Touhidul Islam (40) at Dombolpur village of the upazila. Alamdanga thana Inspector Ekramul Hossain said the locals found the body hanging from the bridge's railing and informed police. "A motorcycle he used and a cap were found lying a short distance away from the bridge. There are signs of scuffles there. The body will be sent for an autopsy," said the police official. According to locals, Touhidul used to return home late after completing his duty. He was last seen having tea at a tea stall in the village around midnight. Later, he left the tea stall but did not return home. — UNB
Two held with foreign liquor in Kurigram
Police have arrested two drug peddlers with foreign liquor at Charrajibpur upazila of Kuriugram. Based on secret information, a police team conducted an operation and arrested the two with 10 bottles of foreign liquor from a bus on the Bottola Road of the upazila on Thursday night. The arrestees are Md Nurul Amin (34) of Izalmari village and Md Shipon Miya (26) of Gucchogram village of the upazila, said police. Mazharul Islam, officer-in-charge of Charrajibpur thana, said a case has been filed against the duo under the Narcotics Control Act, and they have been sent to court. — BSS
Man arrested for killing brother in C'nawabganj
A man was arrested for allegedly killing his younger brother in a dispute over money owed on Thursday. The arrestee is Shafiqul Islam of Shrirampur village in Baliadanga union of Sadar upazila. The dead is Sadikul Islam (32) of the same area. Quoting family members, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chapainawabganj Sadar thana Sajjad Hossain said Shafiqul's wife took the money on loan from Sadikul's wife. An argument broke out between them over the money on Thursday evening. At one point, Shafiqul hit Sadikul Islam with a sharp weapon and fled, said the OC. — UNB
