Painting competition held
BOGURA, Mar 16: On the occasion of the upcoming 104th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman coinciding with the National Children's Day-2024, painting competition was held at Bogura Police Lines School and College in the district on Saturday. Superintendent of Police (Promoted to Additional DIG ) Sudip Kumar Chakraborty inaugurated the competition as the chief guest, held at the Bogura Police Lines School and College auditorium on Saturday noon with principal of the School and College Shahadat Alam Jhunu in the chair. Senior teacher Aysha Siddiqa, assistant teachers Abu Taher and Al Amin, among others were present at the opening ceremony of the competition. — BSS
Police arrest five dacoits in Ctg
CHATTOGRAM, Mar 16: Chattogram District Police, in a drive, arrested five alleged members of a dacoit gang in Wahedpur Rastarmatha area of Mirsari thana of the district Friday night. The arrested are Md Khokan, 28, Mostafa, 35, Suman Mia, 33, Rasel Hossain, 33, and Monsur Alam, 36. Acting on a tip-off, a team of the police conducted a drive in the area and arrested the robbers when they were taking preparation to commit robbery targeting the vehicles and pedestrians on the Dhaka-Chattogram highways, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mirsari Thana Shahidul Islam. The gang roams around the city and district with private cars, taking advantage of opportunities to commit robbery, he added. Later, a Ramda, knives, one stolen mobile phone and SIM were recovered from their possession. — BSS
10 fishermen arrested for violating hilsha ban
CHANDPUR, Mar 16: A mobile court, in a drive, arrested 10 fishermen, seized fishing boat and nets during last 24-hour from various areas of the river of Padma-Meghna sanctuary area of the district for defying the government's ongoing two-month ban on all kinds of fishing including catching of jatka (hilsa fry). Later, the mobile court sentenced six of them to different terms of imprisonment, one fisherman was fined Taka five thousand and three fishermen were released as they were minors. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Chandpur River Police Station Md Kamruzzaman said that a total of 10 fishermen were arrested with three fishing boats and 40,000 meters of nets during the drive from the river of Padma-Meghna sanctuary area. Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner of the District Administration Md Asaduzzaman Sarkar conducted the mobile court and sentenced six fishermen to different terms of jail and fined one fisherman with Taka 5000, he said. The government has imposed a two-month ban starting from March 01 on all kinds of fishing in the 70-km Padma-Meghna sanctuary area. — BSS
