43 women entrepreneurs get sewing machines
RANGAMATI, Aug 18: Sewing machines were distributed among women entrepreneurs in Langadu upazila of the hilly district on Thursday. Dipankar Talukder, MP, distributed the sewing machines in a function held at the upazila rest house Thursday afternoon. President of Langadu upazila unit AL Md Selim, General Secretary Babul Das Babu, AL leaders Rafiqul Maola, Washington Chakma, Zilla Parishad Member Asma Begum and president of Upazila Mohila AL Sabrina Tania were present. As many as 43 women entrepreneurs got sewing machines in the function. — BSS
Discussion on Nat'l Mourning Day at IU
KUSHTIA, Aug 18: A discussion on National Mourning Day was held at the Birshreshtha Abdul Hamid auditorium on Islamic University campus in Kushtia on Thursday. Bangladesh Chhatra League, Islamic University Unit, organised the discussion on the occasion of the 47th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Joint general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Mahbubul Alam Hanif spoke at the discussion as the chief guest. With IU unit Chhatra League President Foysal Siddique in the chair the discussion was addressed, among others, by IU Vice Chancellor Professor Sheikh Dr Abdus Salam, Abdul Hyee, MP, Barrister Selim Altaf George, MP, Pro- Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mahbubur Rahman and Treasurer Professor Dr Alamgir Hossain Bhuiyan. — BSS
Janmashtami celebrated in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI, Aug 18: Janmastami, the birth anniversary of Lord Sri Krishna and one of the major festivals of the Hindu community, was celebrated Thursday amid festivity and religious fervour here as elsewhere in the country. The day's programmes include worship of Lord Krishna, Geeta Jagna, Kirtan, rally, distribution of sweetmeats and discussions. As part of the celebration, members of the Hindu Darmiyan Kalyan Trust held a Janmastami celebration function at Keshabpur Shib Mondir in the city. Panel Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation Shariful Islam addressed the meeting as the chief guest, while Trustee of Hindu Darmiyan Kalyan Trust Tapan Kumar Sen was in the chair. — BSS
