Ghorasal plant starts supplying electricity
Ghorasal 365 MW combined cycle power plant has started commercial operation with supply of electricity to the national grid. The project was one of the 14 mega power projects undertaken by the government to improve the country's power supply situation. — UNB
Forex reserves rise to $33.37b by end-February
Bangladesh's foreign exchange reserves rose to $33.37 billion at the end of February, $680 million more than the previous month, the central bank said on Monday. The reserves were up nearly 2.5 per cent from a year earlier, and are sufficient to cover about 10 months' worth of imports for the country of 160 million people. — Reuters
Curfew in Kandy
COLOMBO, Mar 5: Sri Lanka imposed a curfew Monday in a central hill station town popular with tourists after days of communal unrest that saw a man killed and Muslim businesses set alight. Police said there had been riots and arson attacks since the weekend in Kandy. — AFP
