JSC, JDC exams begin today
This year's Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinations will begin today (Thursday) with the participation of 26,70,333 examinees. Students from 29,677 educational institutions will sit for the examinations at 2,903centres across the country. A total of 22,67,343 students --10,43,752 boys and 12,23,591 girls --will sit for the JSC examination, while 4,02,990 examinees -- 179,980 boys and 2,23,010 girls --for the JDC examination, raising the total to 26,70,333. — UNB
City road mishap kills Rab official
A senior official of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) died after being hit by a container at the Kamlapur Railway Station in the city on Tuesday night. The deceased was identified as Sergeant Md Abu Zafar of Communication and MIS Wing of Rab Headquarters. The accident took place in the railway station while he was receiving the goods for Rab officials around 8:00 pm. — UNB
HC upholds death for three in murder case
The High Court has upheld death sentences for three people convicted by a judge court in the 2010 murder of Shafiqul Islam, a cameraman of private broadcaster ATN Bangla. Justice Bhabani Prasad Singha and Justice Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah passed the verdict on Wednesday. The convicts who received death sentences are Md Ratan Miah, Md Sujon and Md Raju, who were initially convicted by a trial court in 2013. —bdnews24.com
