UN ready to work with new BD govt
The United Nations said it stands ready to work with the new government of Bangladesh and other national stakeholders to further efforts towards a peaceful and inclusive society, good governance and the rule of law in line with the 2030 Agenda, notably SDG 16. "We look forward to Bangladesh implementing its human rights commitments arising from the Universal Periodic Review and international treaties to bring about positive change for all in the country," said the UN office in Dhaka on Sunday. — UNB

Gas cylinder blast fire guts shops in Satkhira
SATKHIRA, Jan 13: At least seven shops were gutted in a fire that broke out near Bhomra Land Port area here in the morning. Local people said the fire that broke out following explosion of a gas cylinder a shop and spread to six other adjacent shops in the area. Two firefighting units went to the spot and extinguished the blaze after sometime, said Mostafizur Rahman Nasim, general secretary of Bhomra Land Port C&F agent Association. — UNB
