4th JS session to begin Sept 8
The fourth session of the 11th parliament will begin on September 8 next after a 59-day recess in the proceedings of the Jatiya Sangsad. President Abdul Hamid on Wednesday summoned the fourth session of the 11th parliament, said a Parliament Secretariat media release. Before the House goes into the session at 5pm on September 8, the business advisory committee of parliament is likely to sit at a meeting to fix the duration and businesses of the session. On July 11 last, the third session (budget session) of the 11th parliament was prorogued, which passed the national budget for 2019-20 fiscal year, supplementary budget for 2018-19 and 7 bills, including Law and Order Disruption (Speedy Trial) (Amendment) Bill, 2019, during its 21 working days. — UNB

Sonali Bank, Janata Bank get new chairmen
The government has appointed new chairmen to two state-owned banks -- Sonali Bank and Janata Bank. According to a letter issued by the Financial Institution Division of the Finance Ministry on Wednesday, Ziaul Hasan Siddiqui, former deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank, was appointed chairman of Sonali Bank while Jamaluddin Ahmed, director of Bangladesh Bank and general secretary of Bangladesh Economic Association, that of Janata Bank. They will serve as the chairman of the two banks for the next three years, said the letter. — UNB
