Fire at Gazipur jute mill
GAZIPUR, Dec 24: Huge goods and machinery were gutted in a fire that broke out at a jute factory at Keowa Bazar in Sreepur upazila on Monday. The fire originated from breaker card machine-8 of 'Sarah Composite Mills Ltd' around 5:45am and soon it engulfed the two godowns. Jute, jute goods, raw materials and machinery were burned down in the fire. On information, eight fire-fighting units from Joydevpur, Sreepur and Bhaluka rushed in and brought the fire under control after five hours of frantic efforts. However, no casualty was reported in the fire. — UNB

Two shot dead in Khagrachhari gunfight
KHAGRACHHARI, Dec 24: Two people were shot dead during a gunfight between the activists of United People's Democratic Front (UPDF), the Chittagong Hill Tracts-based political party, and its rival group Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity(PCJSS) (MN Larma) at Pujgang in Panchhari upazila on Monday. The identities of the deceased could not be known yet. — UNB
