Bodies of girl, youth in Buriganga
A teenage girl and a youth, who went missing after jumping off the first Buriganga Bridge in South Keraniganj on Wednesday, were both found drowned in the Buriganga river on Friday morning. Locals spotted two floating bodies in Hasnabad Trawler ghat area, the east side of Postgola Bridge, and informed police, said Sub-Inspector Rabiul Haq of Hasnabad River Police camp. Later, police recovered the bodies of Emon, 20, son of Sultan of Sayedabad area, and Anika, 18, daughter of Md Ohid Molla of Jatrabari area, around 9am. They might have committed suicide out of frustration or anger, he said. The bodies will be handed over to family members without autopsy as per their request, the police official said. — UNB

Car accident kills one at city filling station
A filling-station worker was run over by a private car in the city's Poribag area Friday. The deceased was identified as Aminul Huq, 55, hailed from Munshiganj's Gazaria, Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost Sub-Inspector (SI) Bachchu Mia said. He said Huq was run over by a private car while working at around 3.33pm at Shahjalal Filling Staion in Poribag area. Critically injured, Huq was whisked off to the DMCH, where the duty doctor declared him dead. — FE Report

Fire at city apartment
An apartment on a 10-storey building caught fire in the city's posh Bailey Road area on Friday afternoon. Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor lives on the 8th-floor of the building. Duty Officer Mahfuz Riben at the Fire Service central control room said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at the kitchen of the 5th-floor flat on Nou Ratan Road around 5:25pm. On information, four firefighting units rushed in and doused the flames. — UNB
