Youth dies as pick-up van hits him in city
A youth was killed when a pick-up van hit him in the city's Arambagh area early Friday. Bacchu Mia, sub-inspector of Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police camp, said Shaon, 18, a mineral water supplier, was killed when a chicken-laden pick-up van hit him while crossing a road around 2:30 am. Another 13 people were injured when a human hauler overturned after being hit by a wrecker in the city's Matuail area around 4:30 am. The injured were admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, said SI Bacchu. — bdnews24.com
Lightning kills four in Habiganj, Sunamganj
Four people were killed in lightning strikes in Habiganj and Sunamganj districts on Friday. In Habiganj, farmer Abul Kalam, 35, was hit by lightning at Uttar Bhabanipur in Bahubal upazila while he was working at his paddy field. In another incident at Morarabda village in Baniachang upazila, farmer Ranadhir Chandra Das, 45, died after being struck by a thunderbolt. Hena Begum, 35, wife of Sohel Miah of Tawsia village in Chunarugaht upazila, was killed as a thunderbolt bore down on her. In Sunamganj, Zafar Ali, 45, met the tragic end of his life as a thunderbolt struck him at Gorkati village in Tahirpur upazila while working in a paddy field. — UNB
Trump shifts position over talk to Mueller
WASHINGTON, May 4: US President Donald Trump on Friday shifted his position over possible talks with US Special Counsel Robert Mueller, saying his lawyers have advised him against any talks but that he would submit to questioning if it was "fair." Trump has repeatedly said he wanted to talk to Mueller, a fellow Republican investigating alleged Russian meddling in the US 2016 election and possible collusion by the Trump campaign.— Reuters
