BRTC staffers, drivers go on strike demanding arrears
The drivers and staffs of state-run Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC)bus service went on strike in city's Joar Shahara depot on Tuesday demanding dues and arrears. None of the buses left the depot following the strike. — UNB

Re-voting in three Brahmanbaria poll centres today
BRAHMANBARIA, Jan 08: Re-balloting in three election centres in Brahmanbaria-2 constituency, where the voting was suspended during the December 30 general election, will be held on Wednesday. In case of 100 per cent turnout of 10,574 voters in the three polling centres, BNP candidate Abdul Sattar Bhuiyan needs 208 votes while his nearest rival independent contender Moyeenuddin Moyeen requires 10,367 votes to win the election. — UNB

Man electrocuted while working on electric pole
A lineman died from electrocution while working on an electric pole at Monsurabad of Adabar in the city on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Abdus Salam, 33, son of Abdur Rahman, of village West Belpukur Baniyapara under Sayedpur police station in Nilphamari district. The incident took place around 1:00am when Salam was working on the electric pole at Monsurabad. — UNB
