Wednesday, 25 June 2014

An independent candidate in the Narayanganj-5 by-election, SM Akram, has alleged that his opponent, Jatiya Party’s aspirant AKM Selim Osman, has threatened to seize polling centres. He said this while talking to the reporters on Tuesday, two days before the poll. Osman, however, denied the allegation. Campaigning for the June 26 election ended at 8am on Tuesday. Akram said he was confident of winning if polling was fair. But he added that Selim Osman’s supporters had threatened to seize polling centres in the Bandar area with the help of miscreants hired from Siddhirganj. Akram also accused Osman of distributing ‘black money’ among the voters. Denying the allegations, Osman said Akram was spreading canards as he stared at certain defeat. Osman said he had no objection to the deployment of the army during the poll, and claimed he had the support of all sections of the people, according to bdnews24.com.
